Giving Back to Westfield House

Westfield House is a gift from the Lutheran Church to the world.

In the forward to the first edition of A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, Dr. William Arndt wrote, “This dictionary in its English dress constitutes a gift of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to the English-speaking world, presented in the hope that the work may assist in the interpretation and dissemination of the Divine Word which lives and abides for ever.”

While finishing his research, Dr. Arndt was approached by the leaders of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of England and asked if he could help found a theological training program through his contacts with the University of Cambridge. Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, graciously granted him leave to spend a year in Cambridge to begin the work. While Dr. Arndt was soon called to be with his Lord, the foundation had been laid! With the support of the LCMS World Mission a stately 19th-century home on Huntingdon Road was purchased. Its community of teachers and students, geographic location, and priceless academic affiliation with Cambridge University make Westfield House a treasure of the Lutheran Church to be shared with the world.

Countless individuals have been blessed by their affiliation with Westfield House and the educational excellence this institution continually provides. Knowing the education you received or saw others receive, you know the value of maintaining this fine theological institution.

As those who have been recipients of a Westfield House education or those who have been blessed by affiliation with Westfield House, we have more than just a passing interest in making sure that the doors of Westfield House stay open. We must all make sure that future leaders of the Lutheran Church, from all corners of the world, can continue to utilize the outstanding learning opportunities available within the walls of this fine facility and within the divinity faculty and research libraries of Cambridge University.

Westfield House exists to training men that they might “Proclaim Christ to the Ends of the Earth” and you are a critical part of this plan. The Friends of Westfield House ask you to pray for Westfield House along with providing financial support.

Just as critical to the success of our program is your willingness to tells others about the work of The Friends of Westfield House. We hope you will share this information with your congregation, circuit, and district so that others share with us in the work of training men to proclaim the Gospel.

Please forward us names and addresses of individuals who would like to receive more information. If you need more information or printed materials to share please contact us by US mail or e-mail us at friends@fowh.org.

There are many ways to support Westfield House. Here is just one example.

A Garden Party ...FOWH MLCH1

Westfield House could not function without a cohort of volunteers from the Lutheran Church at home and abroad. This past summer we were pleased to welcome back members of Memorial Lutheran Church, Houston, Texas.
The annual chores are not always glamorous, but are vital nonetheless. The garden received a weed and trim, the car park was neatly edged and leveled, the ivy was cut back, storage shelves were built, bedrooms were cleaned. All in all it was quite a facelift
